MUSIC NOTES

October 2022

Parents and Patrons,

Fall is off to a busy start in the Vocal Music department. From the Musical to District Auditions and the upcoming District Choir concert and rehearsal and All State auditions, it is busy!

NEMO All District Choir

Auditions were held on September 17 at Hannibal HS. We had 17 students audition for the All District choir, 11 were first time auditioners and 15 made the All-District choir. As I mentioned before we do not audition with the same school size. In Music we audition with all class sizes so we must bring our best performance in the solo and sight reading room. I am so proud of all of these students and even those that tried and did not make it. It is such an honor to be in the NEMO All District Choir. Our members are:

Freshman/Sophomore Choir:

Maysie Snider, Callie Butner, Lania White, Jorja Focht, Gabby Williams, Laney Whitlock, Acadia Flowers, Taylor Flowers, and Kadence Leeper

Junior/Senior Choir:

Tristan Wallach, Cailin Ewing, Ethan Bond, Caroline Moots, Elise Nelson, and Kyleigh Roberts

The All-District Choir rehearsal is November 5, 2022 at Moberly HS. The bus will leave MHS at 7:30am. We are eating lunch at Fiesta Mexican Restaurant.

Those in the Junior/Senior choir will be auditioning for All State Choir on that day. The All District Choir Concert will be at 5pm in the Moberly HS Auditorium. If a student makes the All State Choir they and their parents will need to stay after the concert for a meeting. I will announce if we have members after the Junior/Senior portion of the concert.

KOMU-8 Holiday Sing

On Tuesday, October 25, 2022 the Chamber Choir and Concert Choir both went to the historic MO Theater to sing their Christmas song selections to be used during the Holiday season on KOMU-8 TV. I will post the schedules as soon as I know when they will happen. The minute segments after the news on KOMU-TV 8 and the CW and they will begin on Thanksgiving evening and run through Christmas day.

The Cardinals Calendar sales began on October 19, 2022. All money and sales sheet needs to be turned in by November 9, 2022. Whether we realize it or not music is ALL around us. It plays in our cars or homes as the background noise to our lives. It is playing in stores to encourage people to shop and purchase items. It is blaring through loud speakers before athletic events to get us excited before a big game. But very few people get the privilege to experience music the way I do on a daily basis. I get to hear students SING and help them learn what they can do with their voice. I get a front row seat to watching young singers begin to learn how to use their voice. I watch others use their voice in the choir or small ensemble or even a solo. I get to watch students grow in confidence while taking solos or making all Conference or All District or even All State Choir. I get to watch the reaction when a piece is sung well or touches the students emotionally. Choir is the place where students grow as an individual as they work in a group to achieve common goals. My goal is to help Choir students work to achieve their goals and after graduation to be lifelong performers or supporters and consumers of Music.
