AEL Student Services Assistant Job Description

The Adult Education and Literacy program has an opening for a Student Services Assistant. This position is responsible for connecting with AEL students to support them in their program goals, managing the MO Learns program, following up on former students to track their progress, and other duties as assigned. 

20 hours per week, 46 weeks per year. The starting wage is $20 per hour. It is a part-time position and is not eligible for benefits.  Applicants need to have the following skills and traits:

POSITION: Part-time Student Services Assistant

REPORTS TO: Director of Adult Education and Literacy Program

LOCATION: Macon, MO

SCHEDULE: Schedule varies based on needs of the program. This position will work up to 20 hours per week, 46 weeks a year.

CERTIFICATION: No post-secondary education certification is required. Applicant must pass a fingerprint check as a condition of employment.

TRAVEL:  Some travel will be necessary between class locations or for professional development, meetings, etc.

PAY RATE: $20.00 per hour

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalency.
  • The ability to communicate clearly and professionally present details about the Adult Education and Literacy Program.
  • Be familiar with using computers, Microsoft programs, etc.
  • Effective oral and written skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Become familiar with all aspects of the Adult Education and Literacy (AEL) Program.
  • Student advocacy by providing direct assistance to students who are identified as needing referrals to support services, help them establish education or employment goals, etc.
  • Refer and manage students who are enrolled in the MO Learns program.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information.
  • Provide support to students that have non-academic barriers that lead to absenteeism and drop-out.
  • Participate in professional growth activities.
  • Follow-up outcomes tracking.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:   

  • Abide by state statutes and school board policies and regulations.
  • Attend meetings and perform duties as assigned by program director.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy administrative regulation and AEL grant requirements.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

The Macon Career Center offers the following courses on a continual basis. Please call for dates.

Certified Medication Technician (CMT)- THIS COURSE IS DESIGNED TO MEET THE REQUIRED STANDARDS OF MEDICATION TECHNICIANS WHO ARE EMPLOYED BY NURSING HOMES. IT INCLUDES 60 INSTRUCTIONAL HRS IN CLASSROOM W/ SUPERVISED PRACTICUM TO FOLLOW. Course fee of $425

Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA)- DESIGNED TO TEACH THE BASIC SKILLS NEEDED FOR THOSE EMPLOYED AS NURSE ASSISTANTS IN MISSOURI NURSING HOMES. SEVERAL WRITTEN EXAMS DURING THE COURSE. 100 HOURS OF LICENSED NURSING SUPERVISED EXPERIENCE AND A FINAL EXAM MUST BE COMPLETED IN FOUR MONTHS OF EMPLOYMENT. UPON COMPLETION, STUDENT WILL BECOME A CERTIFIED NURSE ASSISTANT. Course fee of $400


Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)- THIS TRAINING PROGRAM IS OFFERED TO THOSE WHO DESIRE TO BE LICENSED AS EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIANS (EMT) BY THE MISSOURI DIVISION OF HEALTH. THE EMT PROGRAM IS THE BASIC LEVEL OF TRAINING FOR THE EMERGENCY CARE PROVIDER THAT LEADS TO BOTH STATE AND NATIONAL LICENSE EXAMINATION. INSTRUCTOR USES A COMBO OF CLASSROOM TRAINING AND CLINICAL OBSERVATIONS. Course fee of $825 and a $25 application fee.

 

The Spring 2024 EMT classes will meet on Mondays and Thursdays 6-9:30pm, starting January 15, 2024.
