Bucket Fillers

Have you filled someone’s bucket today?  Your child will be asked that question here at school and may in turn ask you about it!  Macon Elementary is working this year to be a school FULL of “Bucket Fillers.”

The Bucket Filler program is based on a series of books:

  • Have You Filled a Bucket Today?  A Guide to Daily Happiness for Kids  (Carol McCloud)
  • How Full is Your Bucket? For Kids (Tom Rath & Mary Reckmeyer)
  • Bucket Filling from A to Z (Carol McCloud & Caryn Butzke)
  • Growing Up with a Bucket Full of Happiness (Carol McCloud)

Each person has an imaginary bucket.  When our buckets are full, we feel happy and good about ourselves.  When our buckets are empty, we are sad and don’t have a good image of ourselves.  We all need each other’s help to fill our buckets.

A bucket can be filled by something as simple as a smile, a friendly greeting, a compliment, or kind words. Really, the list is endless when it comes to filling a bucket!  But sometimes, a bucket can be dipped into by unkind words or actions, not helping others, or bullying.

Bucket Filling is something that everyone can do each and every day.  At Macon Elementary, all staff members are able to pass out a slip of paper called a Bucket Filler to recognize students.  The Bucket Fillers will be placed in a classroom bucket, which will periodically be added to a grade-level bucket in the hallway to show students just how much Bucket Filling we are doing at Macon Elementary.  When our grade-level buckets are full, we will all participate in a school-wide celebration.

We hope that your family will encourage the concept of Bucket Fillers not only for your student but at home as well.  We are excited and looking forward to the positive impact of Bucket Fillers at Macon Elementary!  Please feel free to contact us at school if you have any questions!
