Dear Parent(s),

We wanted to inform you of a new program we will be implementing at Macon Middle School called S.T.O.P. or Student Time Out Program.

Our goal in creating the S.T.O.P program is to eliminate classroom disruptions, minimize distractions to other students, and protect the learning environment.

The concept of the STOP program is a component of the P.B.S. program (Positive Support Behavior) which is research based and has been proven effective. The program will help students modify their behavior by allowing them time to reflect on their actions. Teachers will work together to provide time and space in an alternative location for student reflection time.

When a student is in need of redirection he/she will be sent to a S.T.O.P room to fill out a reflection sheet, be seated in a designated area at lunch, and parents will be contacted by the teacher who sent the student out of class. This allows the student the opportunity to determine what they could have done differently to not have been sent out of the classroom. It also allows teachers to eliminate disruptions that prevent learning for other students.

If you have questions about S.T.O.P, please let us know. Thank you for your support.

Sincerely,

Mr. Fanning, Principal
